Planning Annapurna

Use these regional notes as a starting point. Exact requirements can vary by route, season and itinerary.

01

Choose Your Annapurna Route

Choose the Annapurna adventure that best matches your time, interests, and travel style. Take on the classic Annapurna Circuit Trek for a complete journey around the Annapurna range, trek to the spectacular Annapurna Base Camp surrounded by towering peaks, explore the remote Nar Phu Valley for an off-the-beaten-path Himalayan experience, or choose an Annapurna Foothills Trek for beautiful mountain scenery with a more relaxed and comfortable journey.

02

Choose the Right Season & Duration

Plan your Annapurna trek around the Himalayan seasons. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are generally the most favorable periods, offering pleasant trekking conditions and clearer mountain views. However, the Annapurna region can be explored throughout much of the year, with different seasons bringing their own character, from lush green landscapes and quieter trails in summer to crisp mountain scenery in winter. Choose your route and duration according to the experience you want.

03

Prepare for Altitude & Mountain Conditions

Annapurna treks range from relatively low foothills to high Himalayan elevations, so preparation is important. Bring suitable clothing and sturdy footwear, allow enough time for gradual acclimatization on higher routes, stay well hydrated, and arrange appropriate travel insurance. Good physical preparation will make the journey more enjoyable, while an experienced local guide can help you manage the pace, trail conditions, altitude, and changing mountain weather.

04

Experience the People, Culture & Mountains

Don’t plan your Annapurna journey around the mountains alone. Take time to explore traditional villages, Buddhist monasteries, colorful prayer flags, local traditions, and the diverse communities that make the region so special. Walk at your own pace, talk with local people, enjoy the changing landscapes, and experience everyday Himalayan life along the trail. The mountains may draw you to Annapurna, but the people, culture, and unexpected moments are often what stay with you long after the trek ends.
